Fun in the Sun
Prior to 1975, residents of Lewiston and Clarkston had many wonderful local white sand beaches to enjoy, especially on hot summer days. Those beaches offered a wealth of fun activities, including:
- Swimming
- Picnicking
- Beach fun—volleyball, frisbee, sunbathing, to name a few
- Tubing—including the 6-mile stretch from Asotin all the way to Lewiston or Clarkston beach
- Paddleboarding
- Windsurfing
- Marina restaurants and bars

Returning to the “way it was”
The once-popular river islands and swim beaches will return as the sand is redeposited by the free-flowing river. Locals will be pleased to see the retiring of the “Swim at your own risk” signs that are currently posted downstream in Lower Granite Reservoir due to stagnant, toxic algae-filled water.
